12th Oct 2011

What goes around, comes around. And this month October has come around. I have just got back home after going to England for a few days to meet up with my cousins, some of which I haven’t seen for nearly 40 years! Usually after returning, I have a new artist in my luggage, but not this year I’m afraid, so let’s look back to a classic from the sixties!

In the category “I Can’t Believe we haven’t featured this before”, this song, produced by Jeff Barry, hit the number one spot on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart on December 31, 1966 and remained there for seven weeks, becoming the biggest-selling record for all of 1967. Because of 1,051,280 advance orders, it went gold within two days of release. It is one of the fewer than thirty all-time singles to have sold 10 million (or more) copies worldwide. It was also a number one hit in England, hitting the number one spot in January 1967

I thought love was only true in fairy tales, meant for someone else but not for me

do you really need more clues?

The series running on British TV on a saturday morning was a must for me as a lad …

No need here for more clues. I’m a Believer,
written by Neil Diamond, and recorded (in
this instance) by the Monkees.

All-Night Party
Candidate for President

No need for more clues JD, that’s what I thought 🙂 You’re spot on and as you say, it was written by Neil Diamond, an artist I don’t particularly like, not because of his songs, its his voice I don’t like… WTG and congrats on coming in first.
BTW, did you hear that the newly formed Pirate Party in Berlin got 9% first time around? Maybe there’s hope for the All-Night Party yet…..

im a believer, the monkees hit, written by neil diamond, not jeff barry.

Alan Novich

Well done Alan, of course I never said that it was written by John Barry, but I suppose that’s what happens when you (meaning me) send the mail out incorrectly

the monkee’s – i’m a believer sharon

And so am I Sharon, wtg!!

I just love it when we get a gimme!!! This wouldn’t be “I’m a Believer” by The Monkees, by any chance?
Dee
I thought love was
Only true in fairy tales
Meant for someone else
But not for me
Love was out to get to me
That’s the way it seems
Disappointment haunted
All my dreamsAnd then I saw her face
Now I’m a believer
Not a trace
Of doubt in my mind
I’m in love
I’m a believer
I couldn’t leave her
If I triedI thought love was
More or less a given thing
But the more I gave the less
I got, oh yeah
What’s the use in trying
All you get is pain
When I wanted sunshine
I got rainAnd then I saw her face
Now I’m a believer
Not a trace
Of doubt in my mind
I’m in love
I’m a believer
I couldn’t leave her
If I triedWhat’s the use in trying
All you get is pain
When I wanted sunshine
I got rainAnd then I saw her face
Now I’m a believer
Not a trace
Of doubt in my mind
I’m in love
I’m a believer
I couldn’t leave her
If I triedThen I saw her face
Now I’m a believer
Not a trace
Of doubt in my mind
Now I’m a believer
Yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah
I’m a believer
I’m a believer
I’m a believer
